Anytime is the perfect time to surprise your adventure seeking friends or family with simple adventure gear, gifts and gadgets that could end up being an essential item during a trip. I’m a big believer in less “stuff” and more “experiences”, but sometimes having the appropriate gear packed can be vital for a comfortable vacation. Of course, your final destination will determine a huge chunk of your packing list, but here are a few of the things I never leave home without. Click on each heading to see my favorite adventure gear!

Solar Charger

This is a super essential item for me because I never want to be stuck somewhere without power in case of an emergency. I’ve found myself with long layovers in foreign countries with limited charging stations or outlets so this charger has come in super handy. It’s also great because it simply attaches to your backpack to recharge while hiking on a sunny day.

Sunglasses

The ultimate piece of adventure gear, I never leave home without a pair of sunglasses. I’ve had the same pair of Oakleys for over 10 years and although it might be time for a new set, I’ll be sticking with the same brand because of how well they have held up. *I don’t believe they sell the style I wear anymore, but I linked to a similar pair.

Travel Size Personel Items

When packing my toiletry items, I tend to stick with cheaper options although that usually means sacrificing valuable duffel bag space depending on the journey. If I need to keep my bag under a specific weight limit, I like to go with items that are marketed towards camping. Things like toilet paper, toothpaste, nail clippers or ibuprofen are all great options for any travel destination! Also, if you are going on a trip that will limit your ability to shower… pack baby wipes!

The Right Pack

Everyone has a different preference when it comes to the perfect pack. I’ll recommend the one I’ve had for the last year that has gone up multiple fourteeners as well as all the way to Everest Base Camp, but my advice is to visit your local outdoor store and try a bunch out!

Jetboil

The Jetboil only comes with me for camping or hiking excursions, but it is one piece of adventure gear that I can’t thank my best friends enough for getting me. Being able to boil water for premade meals or hot drinks is something you’ll be thankful for on top of any mountain.

GPS Watch

Another piece of adventure gear that goes everywhere with me. I’ve always been impressed with Garmin products because of their durability and capabilities. I recently upgraded to the Garmin Vivoactive (I’ll have to crank out a review soon) from the Forerunner 235 and couldn’t be happier. A GPS watch might not seem like a necessity, but with various widgets available for the watch I’m able to keep an eye on elevation, weather, distance and of course the time.

Light Source

Maybe not necessary for travel to the city, but absolutely a must have for any outdoor adventure. Chose a lantern or headlamp with multiple settings including bright light and low light to use in various scenarios.

Water Bottle

This is a super easy and cheap gift! Every traveler knows the secret to saving money at the airport is to bring your own reusable water bottle. As long as it’s light and durable it’ll also be great for hiking and backpacking.

A Way To Remember

Some people love to journal during their trips (myself included), some people enjoy charting their route on a map, while others enjoy putting together a photobook upon their return. If you want to go all out for a loved one, I’m sure every jet-setting traveler would love a new camera! Whatever it may be, this is a great way to document an amazing journey!
